Trauma Treatment

What defines a traumatic event or experience

This is different for each person. Trauma is complex in its impacts, and therefore treatment can be complex as well. I utilize a combination of EMDR and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction to address and resolve trauma symptoms.

Trauma is stored somatically, that is, in the body.  Its most debilitating symptoms play out in sensory networks, the nervous system and the Vagus nerve that connect many parts of the body. We have to involve all of those systems to get to the root of trauma.

In a gradual way, we will work to strengthen various aspects of your well-being: emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual and social.

Some common symptoms can be:

  • Re-experiencing the trauma through disturbing memories, flashbacks or nightmare’s

  • emotional detachment or unwanted thoughts

  • Avoiding people, places or activities that remind you of the event

  • Difficulty sleeping and concentrating

  • Being easily irritated and angered

  • loss of interest or pleasure in activities, guilt, or loneliness
